Creative Corner: Art with Ms. Martin
We are excited to kick off a brand new round of creative projects in the art room! Each grade level will be exploring a different artistic technique or style over the next few weeks. Here’s a look at what your young artists will be working on:

🌈 Kindergarten & 1st Grade – Watercolor Wax Resist
Our youngest artists will be discovering the magic of watercolor wax resist!
Students will draw with crayons and then paint over their designs with watercolor. They'll watch their drawings “pop” through the paint as the wax repels the color—always a class favorite!
Skills we’re focusing on:
• Exploring texture
• Understanding resist techniques
• Experimenting with color blending

🎨 2nd & 3rd Grade – Pop Art
These grades will dive into the bold, bright world of Pop Art! Inspired by artists like Andy Warhol and Roy Lichtenstein, students will create eye catching pieces using repetition, vibrant colors, and graphic outlines.
Skills we’re focusing on:
• Identifying characteristics of Pop Art
• Using contrast and color to create emphasis
• Developing personal creativity within a theme

🏺 4th & 5th Grade – Clay Food Sculptures
Our older artists will be working with clay to create realistic or whimsical food sculptures. From tiny tacos to giant donuts, students will learn to shape, sculpt, and later paint their creations once they dry.
Skills we’re focusing on:
• Hand building techniques (pinching, shaping, attaching)
• Creating 3D form and texture
• Planning and executing a multi step project
