December: Reading
Greetings Families,
Reading is a fundamental skill for everyone to develop. The most effective way to encourage children’s interest in reading is by reading to and with them regularly, as well as by demonstrating reading habits through adult models. Even as children grow older, it remains beneficial to read to and with them. During these reading activities, please ask questions, respond to their inquiries, and engage in discussions about the material. This approach helps to enhance communication skills and comprehension.Â
As winter break approaches and you plan activities, please remember to include time dedicated to reading. It is recommended that all children engage in at least 10 minutes of reading daily. This can include reading recipes, instructions, signs while traveling, captions on television, tablets, or phones, labels, articles, and, of course, books. Enjoy the winter break, but do not forget the importance of incorporating reading into your routine.
Reading Counts,
Ms. Gathers
