February Reading with Ms. Gathers
February is a month to celebrate love, making it an excellent opportunity to encourage reading through books. With the colder weather and shorter days, it's an ideal time to enjoy quiet reading time. The media center offers a wide selection of books for students to explore. Engaging in shared reading and discussions enhances communication skills, vocabulary development, and fosters quality time together.
This month, many students will be exploring texts that convey important life lessons and themes. Topics may include love, good versus evil, survival, betrayal, or justice. I encourage you to ask your students about their current reading assignments and discuss the themes with them. Such conversations can support their understanding of the material and contribute to their success on assessments.
Additionally, students will be working on making connections in English Language Arts. This reading comprehension strategy involves relating the text to oneself, another work, the broader world, or media. Utilizing this approach deepens comprehension, enhances memory, and promotes active engagement with the text. It also facilitates richer classroom and home discussions.
Thank you for continuing to read with your child daily; your involvement truly makes a meaningful difference.
