Dexter Elementary Celebrates Read Across America Week

Mar 11, 2025
Faith Middle School students read to Dexter Students in the library during Read Across America Week 2025.

Dexter Elementary School recently celebrated Read Across America Week from March 3rd to March 7th! The week was filled with exciting activities and events that promoted the joy of reading among our students.

One of the highlights of the week was the participation of Faith Middle School's National Junior Honor Society. The students read to Dexter Elementary students in classrooms and small groups of 1st Graders in the library.  In addition to our special guests from Faith, we had parent guest readers who generously volunteered their time to read to our students. Their involvement was greatly appreciated and added a personal touch to the week's activities.
We were also honored to host local author Teresa Short Mitchell, who gave an inspiring presentation to our students. Her visit was a wonderful opportunity for our young readers to learn about the writing process and the importance of storytelling.

The festivities concluded with a lively book character parade, where students and staff dressed up as their favorite book characters. COL Evans, the Garrison Commander, was in attendance and he enthusiastically greeted students as they paraded around the school.
We extend our heartfelt thanks to all the volunteers and participants who made Read Across America Week at Dexter Elementary such a memorable event. Your dedication and enthusiasm have helped foster a love of reading in our students that will last a lifetime.
