Staff at Herbert J. Dexter Elementary School spent Sept. 4 examining student evidence and writing next-step plans in literacy, mathematics, student support, and family communication, using a football theme to keep the work practical and shared.

Welcome back to another exciting year in the Art Room! September has been filled with creativity, exploration, and learning as students settled into new routines and began developing their artistic skills. Our young artists have been working hard to express themselves through a variety of projects while practicing creativity, problem-solving, and craftsmanship. It has been wonderful seeing students excited to create and share their artwork.

September has been a month full of thinking, creating, problem-solving, and fun! Students in Kindergarten through 5th grade participated in Critical and Creative Thinking Lessons (CCTLs) as part of our Advanced Academic Programs and Services (AAPS) programming, led by Dr. Elise Kelley, our AAPS Resource Teacher.

Over this past month, I’ve been able to go in all classrooms to introduce myself and let them know what my role is as a counselor. Several lessons this school year in classroom guidance will come from the Medal of Honor Character Development Program. This is such a wonderful program where students will learn and explore the six core values: Sacrifice, Citizenship, Integrity, Patriotism, Commitment and Courage. I look forward to working with and supporting our Dexter Eagles this school year.

We’re excited to launch our Monthly Reading Incentive Program to encourage reading at home! Each month, students will receive a Reading Challenge form with fun and engaging reading tasks. They can choose the challenge that interests them most!

Hello Eagle Families! I am Coach Bailey and I am the new Dexter Elementary PE teacher! It has been so great getting to work with all my classes these past few weeks and I am looking forward to a wonderful school year full of fun activities!

Our students have been hard at work preparing for some exciting upcoming performances! Students in Kindergarten through 3rd grade are rehearsing music for our Holiday Program, while 4th and 5th graders are preparing for our Veterans Day Program.

Students, staff, families and community partners at Dexter Elementary School came together March 2-6 to celebrate the joy of reading during Read Across America Week, reinforcing DoWEA’s focus on civics, patriotism and classical learning through stories that build character and informed citizenship.
